Little Italy / University Village features excellent access to multiple transit options, including nearby rapid transit stations on the Blue and Pink Lines and about ten bus routes servicing the area. The neighborhood provides a well-connected cycling network with convenient bike-share stations and manageable terrain for bicycling. Education options are readily accessible with several public and private schools located close by. Dining in Little Italy / University Village is vibrant, with over 50 restaurants and 10 coffee shops within easy reach, alongside grocery stores offering a variety of choices. The neighborhood presents a generally quiet atmosphere with parks conveniently nearby and a lively atmosphere centered around Halsted Street, offering various social experiences. Housing typically includes a mix of large and smaller apartment buildings, townhouses, and duplexes, mostly built in the early 1980s, with layouts commonly featuring two- and three-bedroom units.

Little Italy / University Village has a character that appeals to a fairly diverse group of people. Finding things to do in this part of Chicago is very easy. Even though there is a narrow selection of entertainment venues, the streets are very often busy with people, and with its around 30 nightlife venues, there are options for nighttime activities. Halsted Street is among the most energetic streets in this part of the city. Little Italy / University Village is good for those who prefer quiet areas, as there are generally low levels of noise from traffic, however some parts can be quite loud, especially around I-290, I-90 or one of the railway lines. It is easy to get to public green spaces in the neighborhood since there are over 100 of them nearby for residents to visit.
